Lympstone Manor: A new gem in Devon
Lympstone Manor – a gorgeous hotel in Devon from an acclaimed local chef Michael Caines – is a destination in itself and every foodie’s dream.
It was the Daily Telegraph article calling Lympstone Manor “the most exciting new country house hotel in decades” that inspired me to come here for a long weekend at the end of August. I was looking to go somewhere quiet by the sea and without the hassle of airports and flying. Lympstone Manorin Devon seemed to be the perfect destination.
We arrived on a splendid summer’s day, and as soon as we stepped into the hotel’s grounds we were greeted with a stunning view of the River Exe estuary under clear blue skies. Lympstone Manor is set in a charming Georgian country house – that has just been transformed into a contemporary luxury hotel – overlooking a sprawling estate sloping all the way down to the estuary. Next spring a vineyard will be planted on hotel grounds, which means that in a few years’ time Lympstone Manor will produce its own champagne-method sparkling wine.
Michael Caines’ cooking – he has been awarded two Michelin stars – is exquisite and every single bite of every dish was absolutely divine. Throughout our stay, we were spoilt with lovely breakfasts, scrummy afternoon teas and decadent dinners. You do not have to be a resident of the hotel to enjoy the restaurant and many people come to Lymsptone Manor just for lunch or dinner. Michael Caines himself came to meet and greet us a couple of times throughout our stay there, telling us about his vision for Lymsptone Manor. I loved the hotel’s chic decor that is all about contemporary luxury.
The rooms are all different and tastefully furnished. Each room is named after a local bird; we enjoyed one of the suites called the Avocet. Our spacious room came with a private garden, an outside marble bathtub and fire table. One of my favourite things about our room was the golden tub: a little kitch, but still absolutely gorgeous!
Overall our visit was perfect: lovely, warm weather, exquisite surroundings, superb views and friendly, attentive service. An absolutely magical experience in the heart of Devon. I could not recommend highly enough.
