Dolomites: Italy’s Most Scenic Mountains
The Dolomites are thought to be some of the most beautiful mountain in the world, and rightly so!
The Dolomites, also known as the Pale Mountains, are a mountain range in northeastern Italy and part of the Italian Alps. Because of their arresting natural beauty – it features some of the most beautiful mountain landscapes anywhere, with vertical walls, sheer cliffs, glacial peaks and lush forests and valleys – the Dolomites were declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2009.
They are one of the largest exposures of dolomite rock – very similar in its characteristics to limestone -on Earth, from which the name is obtained.
I visited the Dolomites last summer, because I was looking to hike amongst some of the most breath-taking scenery in the Alps. However, the Dolomites is an appealing destination all year round, becoming a great skiing spot in winter months!
